The Handmade Making Process of Yixing Zisha Teapots

Share

All teapots from Zen Clay Studio adopt traditional full-handmade craftsmanship rooted in Yixing’s 600-year heritage, with no machine compression involved. The complete production covers six core rigorous steps.

First, raw clay refinement. Authentic Yixing purple clay is weathered outdoors for years, then kneaded repeatedly to remove air bubbles. Well-tempered clay ensures durable structure and natural micropores for tea aroma preservation. Second, blank shaping. Artisans build teapot bodies manually by beating clay slabs, adjusting radian strictly by naked eye instead of molds. Third, accessory assembly. The spout, handle and lid are carved and calibrated one by one; the lid must fit seamlessly without wobbling.

Fourth, detailed trimming. Artisans polish every edge to deliver smooth minimalist lines. Fifth, low-temperature firing. Teapots are fired in ancient dragon kilns at 1100-1180℃, with temperature tweaks creating unique clay textures. Last, final inspection. Defective pieces are discarded directly.

Each handmade Zisha teapot takes over 15 working days. Its porous clay improves tea taste gradually with use, forming exclusive patina.
